Quake 4 Windows 10 Patch
May 28, 2016 I have a old copy of Quake 4 on CD but cant install it on windows 10. Either i get 1628 error, or the game was somehow installed but it wont start. After 2xclick on exe nothing happens. I tried every compatiblity mode (Win XP, SP 2 or 3), run as admin, copying files to harddrive and install from.

You can try performing a clean boot and check if it you can open the game.
A clean boot helps to verify if any third party application services or startup item is causing this issue.
You may refer the following KB article to put the computer in clean boot:
If your issue is resolved after performing Clean Boot, then follow the steps mentioned in the above KB article to narrow down the exact source.
Also, after resolving the issue, see the section on the clean boot link to how to return your computer to a Normal startup mode by following the steps under “Reset the computer to start as usual.

I received the same result but now it says ‘ Access violation at address 774CB55B in module ‘ntdll.dll’. Rad of address 1000F8E8. InstallShield says ‘1628; Failed to complete installation’.

Looks like in 6 months, Microsoft cant tell us how to load Quake 4 in Windows 10. Can someone please answer?

Open DVD and execute setup .exe. Install official patch Quake4–1.4.2.exe and execute the game whit ‘windows xp service pack 2’ compartibitlity and run as administrator. I worked.
